Are you an aspiring Mathematics, Sciences, or English teacher? Pinelands High School, home to one of South Africa’s Top Achievers of 2024, is offering an exciting Teacher Internship Programme in partnership with Optima. Gain hands-on classroom experience, mentoring, and support while you complete your PGCE in 2026.
This internship is designed for future Mathematics and Sciences teachers, with limited opportunities also available for English. It offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in a high-functioning school that is home to South Africa’s Top Achievers of 2024.
Why Join Our Internship Programme?
Our Teacher Internship Programme provides young graduates with the opportunity to grow in a supportive, professional environment while completing their Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through a recognised distance learning institution in 2026.
Interns will:
- Co-teach timetabled classes and gain valuable classroom experience
- Receive mentoring from experienced and passionate educators
- Participate in extra-mural activities, contributing to school life
- Benefit from subsidised university fees and stationery costs
- Receive a small monthly stipend and support towards accommodation
- Use a tablet for the duration of the year
- Build a strong foundation for a successful teaching career
Who Should Apply?
Applicants should be completing their undergraduate degree in 2025 and intending to study for their PGCE in 2026 through a recognised distance learning institution such as NWU, Stadio, or Two Oceans Graduate Institute. Final selection is dependent on acceptance into one of these programmes.
Please note: Those already in possession of a PGCE bursary for 2026 are not eligible to apply.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit the following documents to Ms Carol Franck at internship@phs.org.za:
- A letter of application, addressed to the Principal
- A curriculum vitae with the names of at least two referees
- Certified copies of degree certificates and results
- A reference letter written in the last two years
