Pinelands High School’s success at the recent Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Cape Town Regional Science Fair has been featured in the People’s Post.
Three of our students, Alexandra de Roo (Grade 9), Uthmaan Razak (Grade 11) and Huda Nacerodien (Grade 11), received gold medals at the regional fair and have been selected to advance to the International Science Fair in Johannesburg, which takes place from 29 September to 4 October.
The People’s Post article takes a closer look at Alexandra’s research into supporting arthropod biodiversity in urban areas, as well as Uthmaan and Huda’s investigation into converting waste tyres into an alternative fuel. Alexandra also received Best in Category and the SAEON Special Award for her project.
Their achievements reflect the strong culture of scientific enquiry and independent research that Pinelands High has developed through its Science and Innovation Fair and academic extension programme.
We are extremely proud of Alexandra, Uthmaan and Huda and wish them well as they prepare to represent Pinelands High at the International Science Fair.
