Before school, during breaks and after school the Reeler Centre (our Learning Hub) is always alive with learning and actitivity. Many of the children play chess when visiting the Reeler Centre and this year Mrs Cheminais would like to purchase a pirate themed chess set for the children to utilise.
Chess is a wonderful way for students to stretch their minds and develop logical thinking patterns. The set weighs 1 kg and the biggest piece is 8 cm tall. Each piece costs R50. If you would like to sponsor a chess piece the money can be handed to Mrs Cheminais or you can pay by credit card at fees office or EFT (reference: Reeler Centre Chess Piece).
Last week approximately 300 students from all of the grades wrote the Maths Olympiad. All students who receive more than 10 out of 20 will progress to the second round, and the top 15 in each grade will be selected for the UCT Maths Competition in the first week of the second term.
Congratulations to our Girls’ First Team Basketball who won the final of the Top Schools’ Competition on Saturday. This is the culmination of the season where the highest ranked top four schools of the season are involved in play-offs. They played the Western Cape Sports School in the final and were crowned Cape Town champs. In the same competition our Boys' First Team made it to the semi-finals and lost narrowly to Heideveld Senior Secondary. Well done to all of our basketball players for a very successful season.
The Boys’ First Team Water Polo played Somerset College in the B-league final of the Western Province Schools’ Water Polo league at Newlands Pool last night. Pinelands High School won 4-3. Congratulations to the boys, to Coach Devon Card and Manager Andy Westcott.
