Oakhill Open Water Festival in Knysna

Posted by on in News

Our U19A boys and girls travelled to the Oakhill Open Water Festival in Knysna for the fourth consecutive time last weekend. It is a special experience for the players and they can count themselves truly blessed to have reaped such a spectacular reward for all their hard efforts in training and their commitment to the sport.

The festival takes place over four days in two constructed pools in the Knysna harbour, making for a truly unique experience. It is a festival rather than a tournament and so the atmosphere is one of great camaraderie and friendship amongst the teams, an ethos that is strongly emphasised by the organisers. Nevertheless it is pleasant to report that the boys won all seven of their matches by considerable margins (every outfield player scored at least one goal) and the girls also performed fantastically to dominate all but one of their seven matches.

Christopher Timm was voted as the best boys’ goalkeeper of the festival and Winona Autagavaia was the top goal scorer in the girls' division. The Pinelands players did us proud with their flawless manners, admirable sportsmanship, fervent spirit and irrepressible charisma.b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_4249.JPG

Come and support the Girls' and Boys' Tennis Team as they shadow at the Pinelands Spur on Tuesday 16 February from 6 pm.

Watch them practise their 'serving'; don't 'chicken' out of this chance to 'meat' the children and 'grill' them about their tour to Hermanus. They would 'love' to tell you about it.  Missing out on this chance would be a big 'misteak' (in fact your 'fault') so don't 'dessert' them when they really need you. Feel free to 'chip' in to this worthy cause.

You can book ahead or it could be a 'Spur of the moment' arrangement; either way we promise you a smas
hing time.

Congratulations Matric Class of 2015

Posted by on in News

b2ap3_thumbnail_Terri-Lakey-small.jpgWe congratulate our Matric class of 2015 on its outstanding results.   We are delighted to report that of the 188 students who wrote the NSC examinations, 159 achieved Bachelor’s passes – 85.5%. This percentage reflects the quality of work undertaken by students and their teachers in the years running up to the final examinations. It also represents a significant improvement on the 2013 and 2014 results, and is in line with our strategic objective of raising the number of Bachelor’s passes. Sadly, one of our students did not pass the examination, and we offer her our support and encouragement.

Our top student was Terri Lakey (pictured top left) who achieved 8 subject A’s (including Advanced Programme Mathematics). She was followed by Toshka Coleman and Keenen Hindley (7 A’s each). Caryn Cyster, Adam Schroeder, Ellen-Anne Williams and Tina Le Fleur each achieved 6 A’s, and Joel Clothier, 5 A’s.

It is not possible to name the many other young people who produced results which do them proud. There are many hidden success stories which tell a tale of hard work by students and their teachers, or of young people overcoming personal challenges or learning difficulties, or of the support and encouragement offered by the school and families to those who have struggled. We salute our school community for its work over the past year, and we wish our 2015 matriculants all of the best for their tertiary studies, or their entry into the working world.
