Alistair Izobell brings Kaapse Jol to the Baxter for the festive season to celebrate this dynamic cosmopolitan city that he calls home, pulsating with a heartbeat that is filled with the unique rhythms inherent to the Mother City. From the indigenous sounds of the Khoi people to the Malay and Dutch influences that make up this rich tapestry of local music. Izobell has become widely regarded as one of Cape Town`s best champions of local music and entertainment and has created many opportunities for young artists. He is one of South Africa`s foremost artists, producers and musical directors, having started his career at age seven, and later went on to perform in David Kramer and Taliep Petersen`s Kat and the Kings, which earned him and the cast the Laurence Olivier Best Actor in a Musical award.
With a stellar cast of high energy performers the story of Cape Town`s sounds will be celebrated and embraced with festive cheer. Join Alistair and friends on a musical journey that will have audiences singing and dancing this summer.
We are excited to announce that Pinelands High School will be hosting our first Short Film Festival. With so many budding film makers in our school we thought it would be appropriate to give them a platform to showcase their work.
The Festival will be happening next week Wednesday, the 30th November, in the Reeler Centre. Page Break will be open at 5.30 for refreshments and we will start at 6pm.
Darryn Joshua, the Director of 'Noem My Skollie', and Simon Beesley, the editor, will be judging the films. 'Noem My Skollie' has just been selected as South Africa's entry to the Academy Awards and recently has been nominated for a Palm Springs Award.
Tickets will be available next week and seats are limited. We look forward to starting a new tradition and appreciation for young film makers.
